Honest Positioning

Where We Do Not Compete

BOZE Metal is a sourcing and processing partner for titanium wire, not a primary melter. The following scope clarifications are necessary for accurate technical and commercial alignment on welding, medical and additive-manufacturing wire orders.

No primary melting

Sponge, VAR and EBM melting and wire-bar production is not in our vertically integrated scope. We source wire-bar and rod from upstream mills; our scope is drawing, annealing, surface finishing, and quality verification.

No blanket aerospace-grade

Material specifications are applied "where applicable" per order. AS9100D governs our QMS, not every shipment classification. Confirm criticality class, specification (ASTM B863, AMS 4951, AWS A5.16), and required documentation per RFQ.

No blanket medical claim

We supply wire to medical material specifications (ASTM F67, F136) where applicable. We are a material supplier and processor, not a finished medical device manufacturer; downstream device-level certification remains the device maker responsibility.

No 24-hour quote promise

Engineering review and quotation timelines are confirmed at the RFQ stage based on the order complexity, alloy, diameter, and downstream processing required. Standard stocked items typically receive a same-week response.

NDT scope is order-specified

100 percent visual and eddy-current continuity testing is standard on medical-grade wire. Spring and aerospace wire is class-tested per spec; welding wire is lot-tested for chemistry, surface contamination, and cast-helix. Test scope is stated at the RFQ, not assumed by default.

Production Workflow

Wire Production Workflow

From incoming rod stock verification through surface preparation, multi-pass drawing, final anneal, NDT, and EN 10204 3.1 MTR issuance - six controlled stages with documentation checkpoints at each handoff.

  1. 01

    Incoming rod stock verification

Grade-certified titanium rod or wire-bar is received with upstream-mill heat-lot, chemistry, and macro-etch records. Lot is verified against ASTM B863 or AMS 4951 before the drawing line starts.

  2. 02

    Surface preparation

Oxide and surface contamination are removed by alkaline cleaning, acid pickling, and a lubricant coat applied to the rod surface to support multi-pass drawing.

  3. 03

Multi-pass cold drawing and intermediate anneal

Wire is drawn through successive diamond dies with area reductions of 20-30 percent per pass. Intermediate vacuum anneals restore ductility so further reduction is achievable without cracking.

  4. 04

Final anneal and surface finish selection

Bright anneal under protective atmosphere produces a clean, oxide-thin surface; vacuum anneal produces a soft matte surface; pickled finish removes the oxide layer entirely for medical and welding applications.

  5. 05

    NDT and continuity check

100 percent visual and eddy-current continuity test on medical-grade wire. Spring and aerospace wire is class-tested per spec; welding wire is lot-tested for chemistry, surface contamination, and cast-helix.

  6. 06

    Winding, packaging, MTR

Wire is wound on customer-specified spools or in coils, vacuum-sealed for medical and AM grades, and accompanied by an EN 10204 3.1 MTR with chemistry and mechanical data traceable to the originating heat.

Operating Boundaries

Operating Boundaries and Failure Modes

Three service-environment boundaries that drive alloy selection, surface finish, and process planning. Confirm these constraints at the RFQ stage.

Spring-back in elastic applications

CP titanium wire has a lower modulus than steel (about 105 GPa vs 200 GPa for spring steel), so spring designs need additional active coils to match steel-spring force. Grade 5 and Grade 9 give higher strength and slightly higher modulus for fatigue-critical spring service.

Surface contamination in welding and biomedical use

Bright and pickled wire is the only acceptable surface for TIG and plasma-arc welding feed and medical device forming. Oxide-dark annealed wire must be pickled or mechanically cleaned before weld use, otherwise oxygen and nitrogen pickup embrittle the weld.

Diameter tolerance and cast-helix limits

For springs and formed clips, the cast-helix (residual curvature on the spool) must remain under 25 mm per meter; for fine welding wire below 0.8 mm, ovality is held to within 0.005 mm. Confirm tolerance class at the RFQ.

Stock and MOQ flexibility

Standard stocked grade and diameter combinations have no minimum order quantity for engineering sampling. Non-stock diameter, custom surface finish, and small-lot medical-grade wire are scheduled against upstream-mill batches; MOQ is determined by the mill campaign and confirmed at the RFQ stage.

Lead-time windows

Standard stocked wire items ship in 5-7 days. Non-standard alloy, fine medical-grade draws, and AM-grade feedstock run 4-6 weeks, driven by upstream-rod heat and drawing campaign. Engineering review and final quotation timing is confirmed at the RFQ stage.

Engineering and Procurement FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Six common buyer questions on welding-wire selection, medical handling, AM feedstock, spring-back, fine wire, and shipment documentation.

Q1 How do you select the right titanium welding wire for a given base material?
Match the weld-wire grade to the base metal: Gr.1 or Gr.2 (ERTi-1, ERTi-2) for CP titanium base; Gr.5 (ERTi-5) for Ti-6Al-4V base; Gr.9 (ERTi-9) for Ti-3Al-2.5V base. Bright or pickled finish is mandatory to avoid oxygen and nitrogen pickup. AWS A5.16 classification is supplied on the spool label and the 3.1 MTR.
Q2 How is medical-grade wire handled differently from industrial wire?
Medical wire is drawn in a clean-room environment with white-gown handling, vacuum-sealed in medical-grade pouches, and shipped with lot-traceable EN 10204 3.1 MTR plus biocompatibility documentation where the order spec calls for it. We are a material supplier and processor; downstream device-level certification remains the device maker responsibility.
Q3 What is the typical surface finish for AM wire feedstock?
AM wire is supplied bright-clean, with the surface oxide mechanically removed and the wire lubricated for stable feeding through the AM deposition head. Pickled finish is also offered for critical cleanliness. Diameter tolerance is held to plus or minus 0.02 mm and ovality under 0.005 mm for stable feed rates.
Q4 How is spring-back controlled when forming titanium wire into springs or clips?
Spring-back is about 2-3 times higher than for steel at the same diameter because of the lower modulus. We use stress-relief anneal after rough forming and age or straightening after final forming to lock in geometry. Closed-loop CNC spring coiling with force-feedback and post-form measurement is the standard process for high-volume spring orders.
Q5 Can titanium wire be drawn below 0.1 mm?
Industrial-class titanium wire is drawn down to about 0.05 mm for specialty applications such as braided catheter reinforcement and micro-spring. Below 0.05 mm the wire is classed as filament and requires different production routes. Confirm the diameter range and tolerance class at the RFQ stage.
Q6 What documentation is supplied with each wire shipment?
EN 10204 3.1 mill test report (chemistry, tensile, elongation), surface-finish declaration, AWS A5.16 classification for welding wire, and ASTM F67 or F136 traceability for medical wire. Independent third-party witness tests by Lloyds, Bureau Veritas, DNV, or customer-appointed agencies are welcomed and arranged at the RFQ stage.
